*Wide-Angle Roller Derby Panned Motion-Blurred Goodness
I shot over 600 photos for the River City Rollergirls roller derby's 4th Annual Season's Beatings.
The last 10 minutes or so I shot with my 10-20 trying out some new effects.
This shot of Mortician Murphy (the rollergirl) and Pat-E-Rat (the ref) was taken at 20mm, f/5.6, ISO 640 at 1/8 of a second.
I kinda like it.
Funny story: Mortician Murphy and Pat-E-Rat are siblings. Okay, it's not so funny now that it's typed out like this. Oh well!

11.20.09 - Cleanliness is next to...a "No Parking" sign??
[decluttr]
Out near Jackson Ward in Richmond, Virginia this afternoon to get some lunch and shoot my weekly installment of our Any Given Friday challenge.
This week, Vanessa chose "42 Steps", which was a slightly modified version of a challenge that recently appeared on dpchallenge.com (of which we're both members). In this one you:
1. Pick a starting point and walk [33] paces in one direction
2. Turn in any other direction and walk [5] paces
3. Turn in any other direction and walk [4] paces
4. Without taking another step, compose a shot from what you can see from that point
The numbers above are in brackets since the original challenge called for 47 paces out your front door....35, 6, and 6. She likes the number 42 (R.I.P., Douglas Adams!), so we changed it and each of us had the latitude to decide where to cut those 5 steps.
From my parking spot, I ended up at the intersection of Broad Street and Brook Road, and this was the most interesting sight around me: a woman in a burqa sweeping newly-fallen leaves from the sidewalk into the street.

10.29.09 - Orangyna T-shirt Product Shoot
10.29.09 - Orangyna T-shirt Product Shoot
Took a quick trip downtown to do some product shots of my friend Alex's t-shirts that she's going to sell on Etsy.
After we got done with the "serious" shots, she decided she wanted some shots on the ground. Far be it from me to disagree.
Oh, and for those who are curious, "Orangyna" is the name she goes by when skating for roller derby.

10.15.09 - Richmond, Virginia Is For Lovers
10.15.09 - Richmond, Virginia Is For Lovers
Okay, so I'm again behind putting up my vacation shots. I'll get to them; I promise!!
Richmond is such a picturesque city in my opinion, but it's the lesser-known areas such as the back alleys and hidden-away spots that draw my attention. This alley in particular is a popular spot among local "urban artists" as a place to showcase their abilities or simply let their creative spirit run wild.
I have submitted this to another site, dpchallenge.com, for their "Your Corner of the World III" challenge. Voting will be held 10/21-10/27. Unfortunately I cannot unhide the image on that site until voting begins.

I'm BAAAaaaaack!
I'm going to start putting up some photos from this amazing trip. My goal is to put up one post a day's worth of pictures, one day for each day of the trip, for a week. The trick will be to see how well I get them all into single posts per day.

09.11.09 - Let there be....
09.11.09 - Memory
On September 11, 2001, I was on Active Duty in the U.S. Navy. While I was about 100 miles from the Pentagon, I knew several people that either worked there or frequently attended meetings or briefings there, including my father.
He was actually supposed to be in a meeting at the Pentagon the morning it was hit by American Airlines Flight 77. While I was fortunate not to have lost anyone that I knew to that tragedy or any of the September 11 attacks, thousands upon thousands were not so lucky.
I took these photos at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond the afternoon of September 11, 2009, regardless of what the upload date says here. The U.S. and Virginia flags were flown at half-staff, and the statue in the lower portion of the photo is appropriately titled "Memory".

Nighttime in the cemetery
It's normally a Class 2 Misdemeanor to be in a cemetery at night in Virginia...unless you get permission from the cemetery.
Our photo group of about 30 people did just that and spent over 4 hours wandering around historic Hollywood Cemetery, shooting what we felt like shooting. I like these.

Feeling a little Zen
I've signed up for a Zenfolio gallery so I can sell my stuff, in case anyone was looking for some early Christmas/Hanukkah gifts!
You can find me HERE.
Of course, as of the time I'm posting this, I haven't put any photos up yet.

08.21.09 - Athwart
08.21.09 - Athwart
I was given the preposition "athwart" to use as a basis for a photo today. No other guidance, just the word. So what you get is a photo that illustrates "athwart", while being personally symbolic to me on a few levels.
I give you: a locked gate athwart a paved path to a future county park. Funny, they haven't done any real work in this location in ages.

08.18.09 - Hitching a Ride
Another from my session with -Brat- from Model Mayhem. I really like the look on her face. It's like she really is hitching a ride and is on the lookout for the conductor.

Photo Posting Test
Taken today as part of a head-to-head photo contest. This is currently being beaten 8-5 by yellow monkeybars against a blue sky. Nuts!
Post One
I'll be putting some photos here whenever I take some that I deem worth viewing.
And yes, I'm partially colorblind, which makes post-processing photos SO much more challenging!
